BETA NOPS Certificate achieved

Hepromij certified as doping-safe production location for equine feeds

26 april 2017

This week Hepromij BV received the certificate from the Feed Safety scheme of the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA®), BETA NOPS. Hepromij BV is the first company overseas to receive this certification, and is now designated to produce horse feeds free from naturally occurring prohibited substances, which is what ‘NOPS’ in short stands for.

A ‘NOPS’ is any naturally occurring substance which can exert an effect on a horse. These substances can be either naturally present in certain ingredients, or as a cross contamination from harvest fields or raw material processing sites. In the racing industry as a whole, prohibited substances and the elimination thereof are gaining more and more interest.

The highly successful NOPS scheme was set up in 2009, to help reduce the risk of prohibited substances in equine feed. The scheme is run solely by BETA®, and endorsed by the British Horseracing Authority and National Trainers Association. Furthermore, the British Equestrian Federation requires all members to use NOPS accredited products.
